nice palette - but poor art

I liked the palette and the texture, but the art was SO minimalist that most of th etime I had no idea what or who I was looking at.

The music was okay, but this animation really need some foley sound to make it work

Cute

However, while I like the video, this isn't really a Flash project - just a video in a Flash wrapper.

The developer also has to learn the art of drinking WHILE working. This is very important.

robototron responds:

Mastered that art a long time ago!

As for the Flash thing...well, I prefer this medium, and there isn't anything like Newgrounds. So, if Flash accepts imported video, and Newgrounds accepts Flash, I think I'm justified. Thanks!

very cute.

This animation prominently features ivy leaves, so I gave it extra points for that.

My only complaint is that some of the audio , (especially where the voices have been filtered to deepen them), is rather muffled.

thecolony responds:

Tnx for the review

You did a difficult thing.

As Flash movies go, this was neither here, nor there. It was reasonably well executed, but not a work of art.

However, and unfortunately, this animatoin will receive a large number of hostile reviews because we are a society that is inimical to life and hostile to anyone or anything that is overtly Christian. Some of the reviewers of this piece were practically frothing at the mouth.

I believe that abortion is perhaps the greatest evil of our time, and that you were courageous to speak out against it.

It is very easy to make a "brave and tragic" statement about how hard it is to be queer, or how important it is to honour freedom of choice about abortion. It is much more difficult, by far, to say anything that is out of step with popular values.

As to those who find themselves suddenly, inexplicably infuriated by this, ask yourselves, if you value free speech so much, why shouldn't someone be allowed to make this statement?

Anenome responds:

Thanks, I agree completely.

simply not good enough

The jiggle effect is getting old, and here it is badly executed... the loops have too many frames and the artwork moves too much.

This animation gave me a headache, and it was boring and unpleasant to watch.

sorry, but it's not funny

...or edifying, or indicative of talent. It's got a little mild shock value, which is great if you're 12. This is the kind of submission no white person in their right mind would make, so I'll presume you're not coming from that direction.

This doesn't have anything to say, so it shouldn't stick around.

BananaLock responds:

What?

A trailer for a sprite movie?

Not worth it. Just submit the fiished piece. I would be much more interested in seeing that.

By the way, it should be "controversial" with an "i".

AngelnX responds:

yea i know i didnt see that i double checked and u guys are right! its with an "i"

Gorgeous

the visuals in this piece were absolutely gorgeous. They were polished, with a unique and memorable flavour of their own.

The animation was a tad ungainly. I realize that could have well been your intention, in order to underline the essential vulnerability of your little protagonist, but it could do with a little speeding up, as it started to become excruciating toward the end.

One thing that has to be fixed, however, is the audio. It drove me nuts. A lot of the Flashkit loops are very sloppy and need to be properly trimmed for looping. The best way to do that is with an audio editor like Sound Forge, which can allow you to tailor your loops for clean repeats with great precision.

However, if you haven't got access to tols like that, you can simply click on the "edit" button where you have placed the audion in your Flash movie, and then slide the rightmost bar on the envelope editor back to the left to the exact point where the audio ends, (you'll see that quite clearly when you look at the waveform).

By playing with that, you should be able to get seamless repeats on your sound loops.

very solid beginning to a series

I really enjoyed this. There were two things that detracted from this animation, however:

The first, and biggest problem was the poor audion quality. Audio can make or break a presentation. The audio quality varied from one character to another, (suggesting the audio was recorded in different places), and some speakers were nearly inaudible because fo background hum.

The second problem was minor, and that was the fact that in some cases the lip synching was sloppier than it should have been.

The writing was more than good enough to hold my interest, though, and on the whole, this was one of my more enjoyable Newgrounds experiences.

Some things to avoid with audio:

1) never deliver your lines to an unscreened microphone, unless you want spikes every time you say the letters "b", or "p"

2) never plug a microphone directly into a sound card

3) never plug a balanced microphone into an unbalanced board, (or vice-versa) without using an impedence transformer

4) avoid using unshielded cable anywhere in your audio set up, unless you really dig that 60-cycle hum...

Cute and well executed

I thought this was nicely done. It's also nice to see something pleasant and constructive on this site for a change. Some music and sound effects would go very nicely with this, and increase its score. I have voted to protect this submission.

actionscript is an interest of mine
